Stay Connected:

The education system in Nepal is basically a ok system, but not for all children. It is not based on equity and looks more on a ‘one size fits all’ system. But not all children have the same needs. This requires another system which is more inclusive in especially the public schools.

Even though the education authority of Nepal has provided so much training to the teachers, it is difficult to implement it in the classroom.  Teachers are teaching with top down method and backbench seating students are seen to be ignored, dominated, and suppressed. Parents of the students are not linked with the school system and local authority is not taking it seriously. We have been observing the classroom teaching of teachers and helping them to modify their teaching method with respect. As parents of the public school are excluding by school management and teachers, parents are blaming teachers that teachers are the problem.

An inclusive school means that students of all abilities have the opportunity to engage in education tailored to their need and best interest. There is an active participation of parents that they feel they are connected and belonging to the school. Duty bearers are providing necessary support for them. Education as such is a responsibility for teachers as well as parents.

Inclusive classroom provides participatory opportunities according to the student’s innate intelligence. Student’s conditions, needs and interests are identified and parents and teachers are actively involved making teaching and learning practical for improving the life.

Bikalpa is supportive in promoting an inclusive school system with Inclusive classroom management. We focus in the workshop on both affirmative as well as improvement issues that are collected from both parents and teachers perspectives. We do so, In order to create a better appreciative understanding between parents and teachers. The result of the workshop is a reduction of the gap between parents and teachers. Parents and teachers are organizing joint activities and working together. It has been improving the quality of education for needy children.

There is a lot to do in public schools to make things more practical and making public schools a good place for children.
